The Somerville Housing Authority is seeking candidates for an opening in the Public Safety Department for an Investigative Police Officer. This is a full time position. No part time opportunities are currently anticipated. Our plain clothes Investigators work in a community policing oriented program in a public housing environment. Candidates will have completed a Massachusetts Municipal Police Officer Basic Academy, or have been certified as exempt. The successful candidate will demonstrate superior written communication skill; excel in a self-directed environment and provide leadership to part-time employees. Creole or Spanish bi-lingual ability preferred. Employees must maintain a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms (Class A), a Massachusetts Driver’s License and a Special Police Officer’s License in the city of Somerville. This position falls under a collective bargaining agreement with International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 25. All benefits are described in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which is available upon request. A one year probationary period begins upon appointment. The employee has mandatory participation in the Somerville Retirement Board, as a Group 4 member, and must meet their requirements. The position will require day time court appearances; evening, weekend and holiday work. Pay rate is $22.06 per hour and the work week is forty hours, which is evenings.
