The City of Cheyenne will be accepting applications for sworn police officers until Tuesday, January 21st, 2014. Entry Level applicants who are hired will attend a 13-week Peace Officer Basic with full pay and benefits while attending the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, Douglas, WY.Laterals will attend a 2-week Criminal Law course.Both Entry and Laterals will be required to complete the department's 14-week Field Training Program, finishing out probation after the successful conclusion of 18 months of employment from date of hire. Laterals meeting criteria found on the department's website may receive a raise in pay grade after six months of satisfactory employment at the Chief's discretion based on prior experience and training. Cheyenne is located in the far southeast corner of the state, sitting at over 6,000 feet elevation. Our work involves responsibility for community protection of life and property, crime prevention, law enforcement and arrest, assigned patrol duties, traffic control, report process, public relations contacts, and other special police related assignments.
Testing date for the written exam and PT Assessment is Thursday, January 23rd, 2014.Oral Boards for those successfully completing the exam and assessment are scheduled for the following day, Friday, January 24th.Applications and detailed explanation of the application process; contacts, locations, deadlines are stated on the department's website, www.cheyennepd.org. A second trip to Cheyenne is required the latter part of March for prospective candidates for the Chief's Interview with further testing (polygraph, psychological evaluation, and medical/drug screen) for candidates receiving a Conditional Offer of Employment.
