APPLICANTS MUST APPLY ONLINE AT www.lakewood.org/jobs The City of Lakewood Police Department is now accepting applications for the July 2014 and possible January 2015 Academy. Applications will be accepted through January 12, 2014. No late entries will be permitted. To qualify as a Police Recruit, you must be 21 years of age and have a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a nationally accredited university by July 6, 2014. Lateral candidates must meet these same requirements and have an active Peace Officer certification and at least two (2) years of Patrol experience. Starting pay for new Recruits is $25.06/hour. Laterals will go through a reduced academy and begin at a higher rate of pay ($30.47/hour) Please note: This application will require you to answer a considerable number of questions and attach two different files; one file containing your most recent unofficial college transcript and the other file containing front & back photos of current driver's license, copy of high school diploma/GED, copy of DD-214 if you are a veteran, and additional explanation of any of the application questions if necessary. Instructions regarding the attachments are also given in the last question on the application. The application will take one to two hours to complete, possibly more. In an entry level capacity, performs Police Officer duties, including but not limited to communicating information, dealing with critical and dangerous situations, safely driving in routine and emergency situations, effecting arrests, transporting arrestees, gathering information from victims, witnesses and suspects, handling firearms with proficiency and safety, working a rotating shift. New Recruits will be paid during their training, which includes a 24 week academy and 16 weeks of field training.

Must be able to pass a polygraph, oral board interview, psychological examinations (pre- and post-offer), background investigation, pre-placement physical examination, hair follicle drug screen and physical abilities test (obstacle course). ***See posting on our site.***
