The City of Albuquerque, New Mexico (the 31st largest city in the United States) is conducting a national search for the position of Chief of Police. Ideal candidates must be of the highest integrity and have a proven track record of proactive, hands-on, proactive management experience and possess excellent interpersonal, problem solving, communication, leadership, and financial management skills. The next Chief of Police will have a broad and varied professional background which demonstrates success in working with diverse communities while leading a professional law enforcement agency engaged in proactive community policing. This at-will executive position is appointed by the Mayor of Albuquerque and is directly responsible to the Chief Administrative Officer for the efficient management of all Police Department activities, including a FY 2013 budget of $155 million and staff of approximately 1,500 employees (sworn and civilian). - Experience: : A minimum of 10 continuous years of experience in municipal law enforcement; 3 years of which are equivalent to Police Captain/Commander or above.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in police science, criminal justice, law enforcement, business, public administration, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 continuous years of experience in municipal law enforcement; 3 years of which are equivalent to Police Captain/Commander or above. Completion of an advanced police management school is desired. The successful candidate must have a New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification or the ability to obtain within one year of hiring date.
