The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office is currently looking for qualified Corrections Officer applicants. Basic requirements include you must be 21 years of age, have a current and valid driver's license with no suspensions (in the last 5 years / cannot have 2 suspensions ever), and no DUI's in the last 5 years. Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Applicant must also be able to pass a criminal records check. Applicant will have to pass a Corrections Officer Selection Test before being continued in the hiring process. Any applicants hired for the Detention Center may be under limited duties until obtaining a Class II certification from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Under occasional supervision, performs protective service work involving the detention and incarceration of adults and juveniles awaiting judicial action or serving limited sentences in the County jail facility; maintains accurate jail records and performs related work as required. Works under stressful, high-risk conditions. Reports to the Corporal/Sergeant, Corrections. Duties may be limited pending certification by the SC Criminal Justice Academy. Maintains the security and safety of the jail facility, inmates and staff through implementation of established policies and procedures. Processes and books inmates; fingerprints and photographs inmates; secures inmates’ property and issues personal hygiene supplies. Serves meals; hands out medications. Supervises visitation, recreation, bond hearings, attorney’s appointments and other inmate activities. Searches cells and inmates for contraband and other safety and security hazards. Assists with daily bond hearings. Completes and maintains required paperwork. Maintains required certifications and training as mandated by the agency. Receives and reviews arrest reports, citation reports, bond payments, commitments, bond hearing certifications, warrants and citations, victim forms, summonses, memos, etc.
