Primary responsibility is for the protection of life through enforcing statutes and laws. Duties normally consist of patrol and traffic activities in the city on an assigned shift in a patrol car, on foot, or bicycle and preliminary investigations; however employees may be delegated assignments in specialized areas. Work involves an element of personal danger and employees must exercise individual judgment and discretion in meeting emergencies and enforcing ordinances and laws. Department Overview: The Pullman Police Department is a full-service, proactive and progressive law enforcement agency serving the City of Pullman. Services provided include crime prevention, criminal and traffic collision investigation, dispute mediation, traffic and parking enforcement, animal control, and code enforcement. Specialty assignments include detective, field training officer, college hill officer, and school resource officer. The Pullman Police Department embraces the Community Policing model of active community engagement and cooperation. Staffing consists of 28 sworn officers and a support staff of 14 providing 24/7 patrol and records coverage. Patrol officers work a 9/80 schedule and detectives work a 4/10 schedule. Area Information: Pullman is home to Washington State University and eight miles from the Idaho border and the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. Pullman is also approximately seventy miles south of Spokane, Washington and thirty miles north of Lewiston, Idaho, home to spectacular recreational areas of Hells Canyon and Snake and Clearwater rivers. Located in the beautiful Palouse area of Washington, Pullman boasts a college town environment with four seasons.
