Job Description

The Edmonston Police Department is seeking men and women that exhibit good character, sound judgment, honesty, reliability, and integrity with a philosophy for community oriented policing and a desire to serve the interests of the residents of the Town of Edmonston. Current starting salary for Maryland certified officers is $45,000.00 per year. We also offer health care benefits, life insurance, Maryland State Retirement and take home car for officers living within 25 miles of town. Minimum qualifications include: U.S. citizen, High School graduate, 21 years of age and must possess a valid driver's license. Candidates possessing certification from the Maryland Police Training Commission are strongly preferred. Minority, female and bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are also strongly preferred. Additional Information

Starting salary is $45,000.00 with an excellent benefit package including enrollment in Maryland State Retirement System, and a take-home vehicle. Resumes may also be submitted in person at the same address. A thorough background investigation will be conducted before an offer of employment. The results of that background investigation could disqualify the candidate from consideration for this position. After an offer of employment a complete physical examination, to include a drug test, will be required. A psychological exam will also be required. The result of these examinations may disqualify the candidate. The candidate will also be administered a polygraph examination, the results of which will be considered along with other information may result in disqualification for employment. All applicants must be a documented U.S. citizen. The Town of Edmonston is a full service community with a small police department. The department provides police services to citizens and visitors of the Town. Currently the department provides a 24/7 coverage on a rotating schedule which requires work on weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather. The Town of Edmonston seeks employees who can work within a small town policing environment, and with the flexibility to perform a variety of tasks. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A successful candidate must at a minimum be able to perform the following essential functions:
  1. Drive an automobile
  2. Have eyesight correctable to 20/20
  3. Be able to walk and stand on one's feet for periods of up to three (3) hours
  4. Be able to hear human conversations at normal speaking voice volumes
  5. Be able to lift 1/2 half of one's own body weight
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate shall have the best combination of a satisfactory background, solid work history, and:
  1. Minimum of 21 years of age
  2. High school graduate or GED
  3. Valid Maryland operator's license
  4. Good driving record
  5. History of dependability as an employee
  6. Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commission certified is preferred
  7. Ability to successfully complete any and all police training requirements.
* Comparative Compliance is a course that is given to police officers that have been previously certified in other states, and provides the additional training needed to meet the minimum requirements of a Maryland certified police officer. Not all states or Federal Police Officer training qualifies for certification in Maryland through comparative compliance. You may wish to contact the Maryland Police & Correctional Training (MPCTC) at 410-875-3400 to see if your previous training will meet the minimum standards for Maryland certification.

  • Experience: : Must currently be a maryland certified police officer or be able to become certified as a police officer after completing Maryland Comparative Compliance Certification Class.
