To perform essential patrol functions as in responding to calls, investigating traffic accidents, enforce traffic laws and ordinances, along with patrolling assigned zone and sector. Other important patrol functions, requires the ability to make judgments regarding arrest/release of suspects/offenders, use reasoning to solve problems,maintain control of emotions, work under stressful conditions and use tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public. Essential physical functions include ability to subdue and arrest a resisting/attacking individual, climb over obstacles such as fences,shrubs and ditches, force entry into buildings, run fast for a short periods of time to apprehend a suspect, ability to sit and stand for long periods of time and maintain target practice skills. A Police Officer requires the ability to collect and preserve evidence, investigate crimes, write reports, request assistance or assist other law enforcement agencies and testify in cases or hearings.
Mansfield Police Department is giving an entrance examination Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 9:00 am. Applications will be accepted March 3,2014 - March 31,2014. Study materials and assistance will be provided Saturday March 22, 2014 at 10:00 am and Tuesday March 25,2014 at 7:00 pm. Additional credits are applied to applicants who take the entrance examination for prior Military, College, Peace Officer Training Certification and Residency. The total additional credit an applicant is entitled to is 20% , even for persons who qualify for multiple credits. All documentation required for extra credit must be submitted along with a completed application for civil service examination to the Human Resources Office, City of Mansfield, 30 N. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44902 by 4:00 pm March 31, 2014. A registration fee of $20 must be submitted to the Finance Office in the form of a check or money order Payable to City of Mansfield by March 31, 2014.
