The University of Texas Police at Houston (UTP-H) is a member of the University of Texas System Police. It is staffed with a dedicated team of sworn and civilian professionals that serve, protect and preserve the “daily campus life” at the number-one cancer center in the nation, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (US News & World Report), and the prestigious University of Texas Health Sciences Center (UT-Health). Both institutions are part of the world’s largest medical complex, The Texas Medical Center located in the heart of the nation’s energy capital, Houston, Texas. UTP-H is responsible for law enforcement, security and personal safety services. Accredited since 1994 it has most recently received meritorious accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA®). We are currently accepting applications for a Police Officer at our Bastrop/Smithville campus. The primary purpose of the Police Officer position is to serve and protect the community, enforce the law, aid all citizens as circumstances require, prevent crime, mitigate disturbances, investigate criminal offenses and arrest offenders.
Pay and Compensation The salary range for this position is $48,000 to $72,000, and starting pay is on a sliding scale commensurate with experience. For example, a police officer with 10 years of approved experience would have a starting pay of approximately $60,000. We also offer bi-lingual pay (up to $1,200 a year), education pay (up to $3,300 a year), TCLEOSE certification pay (up to $3,600 a year) and a tuition reimbursement through a Cohort (up to $5,250 a year). Education Required: High School Diploma or GED, successful completion of a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) approved Basic Peace Officer Course. Has passed TCLEOSE exam. Preferred:60 college hours from an accredited college or university. License/Certifications Required: Possess Peace Officer License from TCLEOSE and a valid Texas Driver’s License. Must hold a Peace Officer Commission issued by the Director of Police of The University of Texas System. Preferred: Ten years of experience working in a law enforcement agency of 75 commissioned personnel or more. Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Systems certification. Experience Required: None Preferred: Successful completion of the prescribed Field Training Program. Note: Must successfully complete the UT-System Police Lateral Academy after hire.
