Police officers in Chickasha are responsible for the safety and security of over 17000 on a daily basis. This is a non-exempt entry-level Law Enforcement Officer position, in the City of Chickasha Oklahoma. Certified officers preferred but we hire the best whether they are certified or not. Summary of Essential Duties: Patrol assigned area of City and enforce state and federal laws and city ordinances; patrol and examine buildings and residences to detect suspicious conditions and handle situations accordingly. Direct traffic in congested and emergency areas; report safety hazards; respond to the scenes of accidents, administer first aid, and investigate cause and file accident reports, investigate crimes, issue citations, and perform other pertinent job duties. Effectively use Handgun, Shotgun, Rifle, TASER and other items in accordance with applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and policies of the department. Visit the scene of crimes and accidents; search for and preserve evidence; investigate and interview victims, witnesses and potential suspects; apprehend those suspected of crimes; participate in line-ups; make oral and written reports; provide testimony in court. Speak before citizens and citizen's groups; participate in various training sessions; relieve communication specialists as needed.
Salary: A Police officer’s base salary is $36,086.78 a year if certified and $35,070.45 a year if uncertified with the potential for increased earnings based on education, certifications, longevity and overtime up $47,000.00. The average patrol officer’s base pay is $37,352.00 and officers receive $1800.00 a year in uniform allowance after probation. Health Insurance Employees pay $100 monthly for single health insurance and $180 a month for family coverage with free ambulance service if you live in the city limits. Employees also have optional insurance available through AFLAC which is paid directly through payroll deductions. Leave Time Employees accrue 8 hours of sick time each month with a maximum of 704 hours and an eligible portion can be “sold” back at the end of the year if not used, vacation is accrued based on length of service with 40-200 hours a year possible with a maximum of 480 hours available if not used. In addition 30 days of paid military leave is available each year if the officer is in the United States Military. The city also has bereavement leave, paid holidays, and personal days for employees. Other Benefits Once probationary status is completed officers are eligible for a take home car if they live within the Chickasha zip code. Once appropriate training has been received, officers are assigned a patrol rifle and shotgun as part of their gear. The Chickasha Police Department also utilizes MobileCop in patrol cars as well as DigiTicket devices and a state of the art In-Car Video System for the fleet. In addition the Chickasha Police Department is actively pursuing accredited status through the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation and Professional Standards Program. Training and Education There are ample opportunities for employees to receive advanced training and attend educational courses. We also offer an incentive where employees can have a portion of their college tuition reimbursed if they are still in college. The Chickasha Police Department has established a standard which requires applicants to meet criteria above and beyond the state standards. These standards include:
1. Must be a legal resident of the United States. 2. Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment. 3. Must not have any pending cases/investigation, nor have been convicted of any felony. 4. Must not admit nor have a credit history which would result in criminal prosecution, including but not be limited to child support. 5. Each misdemeanor admission, pending case/investigation, charge, or conviction will be looked at and reviewed. 6. No felony arrest that results in a misdemeanor court conviction if a preponderance of the evidence indicates a felony was committed. 7. Must not be living with anyone at the time of application who:Physical Requirements: If the physical requirements are not demonstrated prior to a conditional offer of employment, the employee must meet these requirements within 2 months of being hired.
A. Has been convicted of a felony. B. Currently the suspect of a criminal investigation, this will be looked at on a case by case basis. C. Is currently a fugitive from justice; a fugitive from justice is defined as any person who is subject to arrest and prosecution at the time of application.8. Must not be on probation for any crime, other than minor traffic offenses, at the time of application. 9. Must not have been convicted of Sexual Crimes or Domestic Violence 10. Must be eligible to complete C.L.E.E.T. certification as required by the state. 11. Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. 12. Must be able to be certified by the Oklahoma Police Pension and Retirement or designated Medical personnel to be medically fit in accordance with State law governing the selection of Peace Officers after a conditional offer of employment is made. 13. Must be able to be certified by the staff psychologist or designated Mental Health Professional to be psychologically fit in accordance with State law governing the appointment of Peace Officers after a conditional offer of employment. 14. If a former member of the armed forces, must have been discharged from the military under honorable conditions. 15. Must possess or acquire an unrestricted Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Operators License (except for corrective lenses) at the time of employment. 16. Applicants with drivers records that reflect the following will not be considered:
A. Three points or greater currently on their license B. Have had their driving privileges legitimately suspended or revoked, relating to driving behaviors, within the past three years. C. Have received convictions or deferrals for five or more moving traffic violations within the past three years.17. Must not make any false statements concerning a “material fact” in the application process. A “material fact” is any fact concerning the applicant, which, if brought to the attention of the department would result in the applicant being withdrawn or rejected from the selection process.
