Houston Independent School District Job Description POSITION TITLE:Accreditation and Special Projects Manager CONTRACT LENGTH: 12M DATE: 10/03/2012 DATE OF LAST REVISION: 10/03/2012 JOB CODE: 13793 PAY GRADE: 25 FLSA EXEMPTION STATUS: NE JOB SUMMARY Manages the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation process and pre-award grant activities for the Houston ISD Police department. Works on special projects as assigned. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES List most important duties first 1. Coordinates CALEA accreditation tasks to meet deadlines in order to assure an efficient workflow throughout the department. Maintains frequent contact with CALEA staff. 2. Reviews a wide variety of issues concerning CALEA standards and the accreditation process. Meets regularly with the department head, key agency members and others to identify needs and report progress on accreditation efforts. 3. Keeps abreast of the CALEA accreditation process, including proposed changes or amendments to the standards, transition policies, or process changes. Evaluates the impact of these changes on the agency/department. 4. Collaborates with the HISD Grants department to develop grant applications and identify other funding sources beneficial to the department. Assists with implementing grants. 5. At the direction of the Chief of Police or other department management, coordinates work groups to achieve plans of action or to complete department goals. Makes recommendations to management as appropriate. 6. Drafts written directives to achieve accreditation objectives. Maintains master and archive files for agency written directives. Maintains CALEA compliance files. Operates the CALEA Accreditation Compliance Express (CACE) software program or PowerDMS Accreditation software to track accreditation activities. Keeps staff abreast of regulation and policy changes as required by agencies. 7. Completes special project assignments. 8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree, or In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, additional equivalent and directly related education and experience as determined by Human Resources and the hiring manager. Equivalent experience is four or more years in a related field in addition to the minimum experience requirement of 3-5 years. An Associate’s degree would fulfill a portion of the four-year degree requirement. WORK EXPERIENCE 3 to 5 years TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Microsoft Office Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier) Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern public safety agency operations and administration. Ability to delegate tasks effectively. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees, but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading. WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis. BUDGET AUTHORITY Compiles and organizes data and figures. PROBLEM SOLVING Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas. IMPACT OF DECISIONS Decisions have moderate impact to the facility/department or division, causing increased satisfaction or dissatisfaction; producing efficiencies or delays; promoting or inhibiting personal intellectual or professional development; and/or contributing to financial gain or expense. Errors may be serious, usually not subject to direct verification or check, causing losses such as improper cost calculations, overpayment or improper utilization of labor, materials or equipment. Effect usually confined to the organization itself and is short term. COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS Information sharing – gives an receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates. WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
