Job Description

The Directed Patrol Officer shall be responsible for providing specific specialized police response to traffic and crime problems within the city.  Selective traffic enforcement programs and crime suppression programs will be major areas of concentration.  

The duties of the Directed Patrol Officer include operating radar to reduce and/or minimize citizen complaints and accident rates, providing foot patrols in shopping areas to promote crime prevention and positive community relations, monitoring high accident rate locations and taking enforcement action on hazardous traffic violations that are observed, providing observation of high crime areas to identify and apprehend any perpetrators of criminal acts, providing patrol to selected areas that lend themselves to potential serious crime such as financial institutions and pharmacies, and providing specialized patrol to identify and arrest impaired drivers.  The Directed Patrol Officer will work very closely with their Lieutenant and Staff Commander, who will provide general direction and assignments.  The Directed Patrol Officer will report to a designated supervisor, determined by work hours.  The Directed Patrol Officer shall perform other duties and functions as directed by the Chief of Police or supervisors.

PHASE 1 - The Physical Agility portion will be conducted on Saturday, June 14, 2014.

Additional information will be available with the application. Due to the fact that the agility test requires physical exertion, BEFORE you will be permitted to take the agility test, you MUST present to the Civil Service Commission a CURRENT statement from your doctor certifying that you are free of cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases and are physically capable to participate and withstand the Agility Test. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Those applicants successfully completing Phase 1 will move to Phase 2.

PHASE 2 - The Written Examination portion will be conducted on Saturday, June 21, 2014.

Application forms may be secured BEGINNING MAY 12, 2014 AT 8:30 A.M. at Marion City Hall in the Human Resources Office, 233 West Center Street, Marion, Ohio 43302.  The application packet can be downloaded from www.marionohio.us.

ALL APPLICANTS MUST FURNISH A COPY OF THEIR BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND A COPY OF THEIR VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH THE APPLICATION. EXTRA CREDIT DOCUMENTS MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION AT THE TIME IT IS SUBMITTED. IF CLAIMING MILITARY CREDIT, A COPY OF YOUR DISCHARGE PAPERS (00214) MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION. IF CLAIMING CREDIT FOR A 2-YEAR OR 4-YEAR DEGREE, A COPY OF YOUR CERTIFIED GRADE TRANSCRIPT MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION. IF CLAIMING CREDIT FOR OPOTA TRAINING, A COPY OF YOUR OPOTA CERTIFICATION MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION.

A nonrefundable application fee of $20.00 (in the form of check or money order) MUST accompany the application before it will be accepted. Completed applications and attachments MUST be on file in the Human Resources Office no later than Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 2:00 P.M.
