POLICE OFFICER(Certified and Non-Certified)

Salary Range: (Certified) $52,708- $80,306 Closing Date: Open until filled

(Non-Certified) $14.62 per hour plus overtime while attending Police Academy

This is general police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.

Police Officers perform work in accordance with the departmental rules and regulations and receive assignments and instructions from police personnel of higher rank.

All applicants must meet all requirements of the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission and those of the Plantation Police Department.

Additional Information

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a United States Citizen past the 19th birthdate as of the date of application. Proof of date of birth must be

submitted with application. (Driver’s license will not be considered as proof of date of birth).

Must currently possess, or be eligible to obtain, a Florida Driver’s license with an overall good driving record. No

single suspension of driver’s license within the past two (2) years and no more than two (2) suspensions within the

past five (5) year history (except if suspension was due to insurance error or Clerk of Court error).

Possess an Associates Degree, or 60 semester hours (with minimum 2.0 GPA) or 90 quarter hours (with minimum

2.0 GPA) of college course work accredited by a recognized accrediting agency and/or an honorable discharge

from service in the U.S. Armed Forces and/or related law enforcement work experience.

Must have never been convicted of a felony or other crime, which would indicate a lack of good moral character.

EXAMINATION:

The examination consists of physical agility, swimming test, oral board interview, CVSA, psychological evaluation,

background investigation, medical examination, drug testing and personal interview with the Chief of Police. A

written test is also required. A 12.9 in each section of the T.A.B.E. Survey (Math, Reading, Language and Spelling)

and a score of 80% in the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT Test). Please see T.A.B.E. Testing Centers

information on the Hiring Process link. The candidate is responsible for scheduling their own testing and

providing their scores to the City. Test scores must be submitted with the application. Applications must be

received by 4:30 pm on the closing date.

It is a necessary requirement and policy that all applicants for the position of Police Officer pass all of the

required pre-employment testing. Please keep in mind that the testing process may take up to one year. If

you fail any part of our testing, your application will not be processed further. However, you are eligible to

reapply with our city one (1) year from the date on which you failed part of your testing procedures, unless

otherwise stated.

This job posting has been designated as “ESSENTIAL” for declared emergencies and must meet National Incident

Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level.
