Job Description

The Albany Police Departmentis recruiting to fill 3 vacant positionsand establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies.The screening process will consist of the following:  (Dates to be determined)Initial Application ReviewSpeed/Video Conference Interview: Five (5) minute face-to-face interview for invited applicants. Applicants living more than approximately 150 miles away, will be given the option for a video conference interview.* Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT): Obstacle course consisting of jogging, jumping, crawling, climbing stairs, crossing a balance beam 6 inches wide by 15 feet long, manipulating a push and pull station, controlling 80 lbs or weight, and dragging a 165 lb. dummy 25 feet , as required by DPSST in 5 minutes and 30 seconds.* Written Evaluation/Test (Ergometrics)Oral Board Interview: Formal face-to-face interview with interview panel.Pre-Employment Background InvestigationPre-Employment Psychological EvaluationPre-Employment Medical Evaluation* NOTE: Test scores for the written and physical abilities tests will not be accepted or shared from/with other law enforcement testing agencies. In addition, test scores from this testing process will not be provided to applicants or other testing law enforcement agencies.________________________________________________________________________The City of Albany will consider and/or apply any applicable incentives including but not limited to the following: 1.  City-provided uniforms, duty weapon, equipment, and uniform cleaning for sworn, uniformed personnel. 2.  Annual firearms range membership paid by City. 3.  Bilingual Pay (Spanish)     3% -Intermediate     5% -Advanced4.  2% ORPAT Pay (must have score of 5 minutes 30 seconds or less twice annually) 5.  Education Pay *     3% - Associate's Degree     6% - Bachelor's Degree6.  DPSST Certification Pay *     3% -Intermediate     6% -Advanced* Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, total education and DPSST certification incentive pay will not exceed eight (8%) percent at one time.

Qualifications & Requirements:
a) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED equivalent. Special consideration may be given for a college degree in criminal justice, social science, or related field. b) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES General knowledge of: modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Working knowledge of the following: pertinent city, county, state, and federal laws; geography of the city; and location of important buildings. Skill in: operation of listed tools and equipment; the use of firearms; and proficient written and oral communications. Ability to: learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations; perform work requiring good physical condition; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, and supervisors; exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; react quickly and calmly under emergency conditions; follow verbal and written instructions; meet the special requirements listed below; and learn the city's geography. c) SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment.Must be a U.S. citizen.Must be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.Must be able to proficiently and effectively read, speak, and write the English language.Must meet Department's physical agility qualifications.Must possess or obtain a valid Oregon driver's license and meet the Department’s personal driving record standards prior to assuming duties.Must pass a thorough background investigation and integrity interview that establishes strong moral character. Any conduct that could compromise the integrity of the employee, other employees, the Department or the City will be closely evaluated. Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories are not allowed.Must successfully complete psychological and medical evaluation prior to employment.Must meet state requirements for certification as a law enforcement officer with the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.Must be a first responder and have CPR certification within 12 months of employment.Must be able to obtain police officer certification from the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training within 12 months of employment.Qualification standards include a requirement that the individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace.
