Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas is an 866-bed hospital located just north of downtown Dallas. We are a community-based hospital serving as a referral center for North and East Texas. There are more than 1,200 physicians on our medical staff, and we offer a full range of care including services for cancer, cardiovascular problems, neuroscience needs, orthopedics, senior care and women's services. From our Stereotactic Surgery Program for Parkinson's disease to our Gamma Knife for treating tumors, we are able to offer a wide range of services to care for complicated medical conditions, which make our facility intensely qualified to serve our community and your professional aspirations.

Texas Health Dallas is in search of a Lieutenant to join the Security Team and reports to the Chief of Police.


  • Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement or a related field
  • Eight (8) years of progressive experience as a Law Enforcement Officer with; three (3) of which must be supervisory

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Requirements / Skills:

  • Must meet and maintain eligibility requirements for Texas Police Officer’s license in accordance with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCLEOSE)
  • Must have a valid Texas Class C Driver License and be insurable
  • Pursuant to TCOLE Declaration of Medical Condition, Commission Rule 215.15 (c), 217.1 (a), 217.7 (e) new license applicants must complete both a physical exam and drug screen (Licensee Officers with more than a 180-day break in service need drug screen only)
  • Must obtain a Mental Health Officer Certification through TCLEOS within two years of employment in this position
  • Must complete a polygraph test and psychological evaluation
  • May be subject to further written and/or oral pre-assignment test/training
  • Must be able to follow, practice and utilize the Peace Officer Weapons Standard and Qualification General Order to ensure the safety of officers, hospital staff, patients and visitors
  • Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of customer-based Peace Officer management techniques
  • Must be able to demonstrate supervisory/management skills and techniques
  • Must be able to use data and information to measure performance and correct problems
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to deal with the public and fellow employees in a tactful and diplomatic manner
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of personal computer software, including database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs
  • Must be able to make sound judgments
  • Must be able to testify in court to present case facts

  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities of the agency to ensure optimal operations for THD
  • Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, and resource needs within work units, and implement appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, efficiency, and service methods that support the overall goals of THD and the Department of Public Safety; Manages improvements through statistical and written reports with management to ensure continuous improvement activities
  • Selects, motivates, counsels, schedules, and evaluates assigned staff to maximize utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to internal and external customers
  • Responsible for coordinating training for all assigned staff; Works with employees to assist them with their personal development, ensuring that good performance is recognized and that work deficiencies are addressed in a timely manner; Implements necessary disciplinary procedures as needed; Submits reports to management on supervisory issues as required
  • Directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for assigned responsibilities
  • Assigns work activities/projects, monitors work flow and develop feedback reports to ensure progress of assigned staff; Reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures as needed
  • Manages operations and/or field services within the assigned work unit to maximize the safety of patients, property, visitors, and staff, and the security of THD buildings, equipment, grounds, and parking facilities
  • Participates in preparing the budget for assigned area of responsibility, assists in budget implementation, and participates in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies, so as to ensure that the budget is effectively managed
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, state and local laws, and guidelines that impact the Police Department; Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable local/state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans; Reviews the work of assigned personnel to ensure compliance with hospital and departmental procedures; Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding
  • Produces and presents various divisional reports and other necessary correspondence to ensure that quality documentation is maintained; Coordinates the purchase, installation and follow-up on THD Security related systems to ensure continuing compatibility with existing systems
