The City of Lakewood Police Department is now accepting applications for the expected July 2015 and January 2016 Academies. Applications will be accepted through the City’s website until October 12, 2014. No late entries will be permitted. Testing for the position is expected to begin in late January / early February 2015.To qualify as a Police Recruit, you must be 21 years of age and have a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a nationally accredited university by July 6, 2015. Lateral candidates must meet these same requirements and have an active Peace Officer certification and at least two (2) years of Patrol experience.Starting pay for new Recruits is $25.32/hour. Laterals will go through a reduced academy and begin at a higher rate of pay ($30.78/hour). Lateral hire consideration will be given on a case by case basis.

No felony convictions.

for a list of misdemeanors that will preclude police officer certification. Generally, traffic violations do not fall under these restrictions; however, you must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license by the date of hire.

Job Summary Description
In an entry level capacity, performs Police Officer duties, including but not limited to communicating information, dealing with critical and dangerous situations, safely driving in routine and emergency situations, effecting arrests, transporting arrestees, gathering information from victims, witnesses and suspects, handling firearms with proficiency and safety, working a rotating shift. New Recruits will be paid during their training, which includes a 24 week academy and 16 weeks of field training.
