Patrols assigned district(s) within City limits; responds to radio dispatch calls for investigation of breaches of the peace and citizen complaints; performs preliminary and initial investigations at scenes; prepares citations and summonses; makes arrests and transports individuals; appears in court to offer testimony relative to the investigation of incidents; prepares a variety of reports and records; and offers assistance to citizens.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Good physical condition, minimum or 21 years of age, minimum vision corrected to 20/40 in worst eye and 20/20 in best eye, high school diploma or equivalent, possession of or ability to obtain a valid Colorado driver's license, good moral character (past criminal activity may be disqualifing - see list) and ability to work in a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays.
ADDITIONAL QULIFICATIONS/PAY RATES
New hires will be sponsored by the City while attending the Western Colorado Peace Officers Academy (15 weeks) including tuition, equipment and an hourly pay rate of $23.38 per hour. Recruits must successfully complete the Academy and be Colorado POST certifiable prior to beginning their Field Training Program with the department. Police Officers that are proficient at all aspects of the job currently earn $32.38 per hour.
This list of critical admissions, which may be cause for disqualification from employment with the Grand Junction Police Department, is provided to Police Officer applicants, CVSA Technicians and others involved in the Police Department recruitment process.Any felony conviction.
Any conviction for a crime of violence as an adult (18 or over), specifically assaults, domestic violence, etc.
Any conviction for a "hate crime" such as ethnic intimidation.
Any theft conviction regardless of value of item.
Theft from current employer or a previous employer.
Illegal drug use and/or current alcohol abuse.
An alcohol or drug conviction including but not limited to DUI/DWAI, depending on recency.
Hit and run accident conviction.
Being under or having been under driving restraint, cancellation, suspension or revocation of driving privileges in Colorado or any other state.
