TOWN OF NARRAGANSETT

POLICE DEPARTMENT

POLICE OFFICER

Information relating to the qualifications for initial appointment to the Police Department (AN ORDINANCE IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 11 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE TOWN OF NARRAGANSETT) as well as applications may be obtained at the Town Hall – Human Resources, 25 Fifth Avenue or the Police Department, 40 Caswell Street.  Applications must be returned to the office of the Chief of Police no later than August 12, 2014, 4:00 pm.

PLEASE NOTE: PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST & WRITTEN TEST

Additional Information

The first phase of the testing is the Physical Agility, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. – at the University of Rhode Island’s Mackal Field House, 75 Keaney Road, Kingston, RI.  You will be required to wear a white t-shirt, blue shorts and sneakers for the test.  You will also be required to provide proof of identification.  The identification must be state certified with photo i.e. driver’s license, passport or military ID.  College IDs and library cards, etc. are not acceptable.  Candidates unable to provide photo identification at the time of the testing will be disqualified.

Please note:  A Physicians Note dated within six months of Aug. 23, 2014, must be provided on the day of the testing.  This note clears the candidate for Physical Agility Testing.  Failure to provide this information will disqualify the candidate.

The physical agility testing will be conducted using the entrance standards set forth by the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy.

Attention:  No one will be allowed to take the physical agility test unless all of the above criteria have been met.

Job Requirements

  • Age: 20 - 31
  • Education: Minimum of 60 college credit hours or two consecutive years of honorable active duty military service
  • Experience: none required

The second phase of the testing is the written test which will be held the same day, August 23, 2014 beginning promptly at 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at the Narragansett High School, 245 South Pier Road, Narragansett, RI.

There is a $30.00 testing fee which is payable on the day of the test.  Payment should be either personal check or money order made payable to the Town of Narragansett.  Cash, credit card or any other means of payment will NOT be accepted.
