Serve the public; provide dedicated protection, security, preliminary fire and law enforcement responses at the Clinical Sciences Center/Hospital (CSC) and the adjoining Health Sciences complex; operate large access control, communications, closed-circuit TV and alarm systems, and patrol the buildings and grounds of the complex; provide emergency assistance as needed; interact with health sciences students, faculty, staff and the public on issues involving security or safety; assist with inmate movements and way-finding upon request; make observations and write detailed reports regarding disturbances and situations that could cause injury or loss to the complex or its users; support the hospital security in a back-up role, verbally and physically controlling patients; assist with law enforcement and security matters involving visitors or staff when needed, including assisting with criminal investigations as needed. Officers participate in one or more specialties, including but not limited to covert camera installation, providing security surveys, the provision of formal training to university staff on workplace violence, emergency management, research protection and other security-related issues, providing CPR/AED training, or assisting with physical tactic training for hospital employees designated to assist with combative patients. Specialties beyond the health sciences setting may include assisting with perimeters or operating X-Ray or metal detection equipment at special events, extracting protesters from improvised devices, and assignments to work groups completing departmental strategic planning initiatives or projects.
