The principal function of an employee in this class is to maintain community order through enforcing local, state and federal laws. The work involves preventing and investigating crimes, patrolling the City of Mountain Home, enforcing traffic laws and ordinances, responding to citizens calls for service, applying community policing procedures, and making presentations to schools or civic groups. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a Police Sergeant or other Command Staff. An employee in this class may be assigned to a specialty area such as K-9, or may perform the duties of other employees in the Mountain Home Police Department as required or as assigned by supervisory personnel. The principal duties of this class are performed in a work environment in which the employee is subject to potential personal danger., including exposure to inclement weather conditions and dangerous body fluids. An employee in this class may perform additional public safety duties as assigned.

Graduation from high school or GED
Any equivalent combintation of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work
Must be in possession of an Idaho Driver's License if hired.
Ability to pass a background check, including polygraph and psychological exam
Ability to pass a written test
Ability to pass physical fitness testing to POST standards
Idaho Peace Officer Standards Basic Certification required after one year of employment
