The Lovington Police department is currently seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer. We are taking applications for Certified and Uncertified officers. We strongly encourage out of state applicants since the State of New Mexico offers (CBW) Certification by Waiver for officers who have been out of service for 8 years or less in any state.
We offer a comprehensive package including health, dental, uniform cleaning, partial gym membership and PERA retirement. Our starting pay for an uncertified officer is currently $18.01 per hour. Once you have successfully completed the NMLEA police academy, you will receive pay increase to $21.10 per hour. We offer a take home car policy and overtime pay/comp time available. Currently the patrolmen work a 12 hour shift, on a 56 day rotation which includes every other weekend off. Also included are eleven (11) paid holidays, sick leave and vacation time. Sick leave and vacation are accrued on a monthly bases and eligible for 80 hours vacation time off after a year of employment.

Our current hiring process includes a P.T. test, written test and oral interview. The next P.T. test will take place on 08/18/2014. If you successfully pass, you will then be invited to take the written test. The next step is to successfully complete an oral interview with a Board for placement on a hiring list. The physical requirements are posted on the NMDPS Law Enforcement Academy website under the "Basic Academy" tab. Another scheduled testing may take place 30-45 days later, if needed.
After the recommendation from the hiring Board, the potential candidates will be required to take a psychological test, polygraph, full medical assessment and a complete background check before the conditional offer is presented.
