Current TCOLE Certified Peace Officers, who are accepted for Lateral Entry will attend a Modified Training Academy and Police Training Officer (PTO) program. The salary during training will be commensurate to the officer’s previous term of service as a Peace Officer, not to exceed the City of Abilene's Two-Year Officer’s salary step. After completing PTO, the employee’s salary will be reclassified to reflect their total previous term of service as a Texas Peace Officer with a maximum upper limit of the Five-Year salary step. To advance beyond the Five-Year salary step, the employee must have tenure in that position as an Abilene Police Officer equivalent to the difference in the Five-Year salary step and the next step of the Salary Schedule in effect at the time.
Under general supervision, to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special Department crime prevention and enforcement programs; and to do related work as assigned.
