Job Description

Under the direction of the Services Lieutenant, supervise and coordinate personnel and resources for the successful  operation of the Police Property & Evidence Unit. Supervise the receipt, classification, storage, safeguarding, disposal, inventory control and issuance of a wide variety of evidence, narcotics, police equipment and property. 

Establish policies and procedures to meet national property unit standards. Research and implement new technologies to increase efficiency. Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment on any shift, holiday, and/or weekend days/nights as required for scheduling by supervision. Be on-call after work hours, weekends and holidays. Perform other related duties as required.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

Three years of recent experience required in a computerized Property & Evidence Unit, plus one year of recent supervisory experience with a law enforcement agency; or must have five years of recent experience in a law enforcement computerized Property & Evidence Unit of comparable size to that of the Richardson Police Department.

Must be knowledgeable in the appropriate federal, state and local ordinances pertaining to release, destruction and disposal of confiscated property, biological material and evidence. Must have reading, comprehension, mathematical, decision making and supervisory/management abilities. Must be able to communicate courteously and effectively in English with coworkers, officials, and the public, in person, in writing, and by telephone. Must have ability to multi-task. Must be able to: lift, carry (up to 50 pounds), drag, pull, and push (up to 100 pounds) while placing and removing property and evidence on to and from shelves up to ten (10) feet high; bend, carry, climb, clean, hold, see, sort, squat, twist body, walk, kneel, crawl and/or stoop to store and retrieve evidence; stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.

Job Requirements

  • Age: 21
  • Education: High school diploma or G.E.D required
  • Experience: 3 yrs in Prop Evid room plus 1 as supervisor or 5 yrs total

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:

High school diploma or G.E.D required. Texas driver's license, Class "C" or above required. College level 

coursework in law enforcement, public administration or closely related field is desirable.
