City of Bowling Green, KY is accepting applications for Police Officer until 1600 (central) on 09/19/14. BGPD serves a population of just over 60,000 residents (night time) and many visitors with 113 sworn officers. BGPD uses the strategy of the generalist patrol officer requiring officers to perform a variety of law enforcement duties. Bowling Green is located in South Central Kentucky approximately an hour's drive on I-65 from Nashville.
New officers (not certified) must complete the 18 week basic academy at the KY Department of Criminal Justice Training Center in Richmond, KY. Two weeks of pre-academy training and two weeks of post-academy training are completed by the BGPD Training Staff prior to the new officer completing the Police Training Officer (PTO) Program. New officers are paid during the academy/training however after certification receive $3,100 per year state supplemental pay for certification. This pay is divided by 12 and paid in a separate check each month.

BGPD furnishes new officers with all necessary equipment, weapons, and uniforms.
BGPD utilizes the "Home Fleet" cruiser program, with certain restrictions, for officers once their training is completed.
