Job Description

The Battle Ground Police Department is offering a $10,000 Lateral Signing Bonus!

++Lateral Bonus++

Candidates will be eligible to receive $10,000.00 in gross wages in exchange for a minimum five year commitment of employment with the Battle Ground Police Department as a commissioned law enforcement officer.

A candidate receiving the Lateral Bonus will be paid on the following schedule:

· $2,500.00 - first pay check after being formally hired

· $2,500.00 - first pay check upon successful completion of probation period

· $2,500.00 - first pay check upon successful completion of three year anniversary

· $2,500.00- first pay check upon successful completion of five year anniversary

The Battle Ground Police Department currently consists of 26 sworn and non-sworn employees. Sworn positions include the Chief of Police, 2 Lieutenants, 5 Sergeants and 15 Officers.

Police Officers are full time, regular, non-exempt and belong to the union. This position is covered under the provisions of an agreement between the City and the Battle Ground Police Officers Association.

The Battle Ground Police Department is accredited from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.

The City of Battle Ground and the surrounding areas offer plenty of opportunities for fun and leisure.

The City has 136 acres of parks, trails and sports facilities such as a skate park and little league baseball fields.

Also close by is the Lewisville Regional Park which features 154 acres of forest and meadows, and a 3-mile trail system.

Washington State has many beaches, rivers and lakes and is a great place for kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, rafting, boating, mountain bike riding, playing and sightseeing.

Downtown Portland is just a 30-minute drive away where there are a wide variety of restaurants, shopping and annual events, such as the Jazz Festival, Rose Festival and Shamrock Run, and much more.

Job Requirements

  • Age: minimum age 21.
  • Education: High School diploma or GED and have completed an approved basic law enforcement academy within the state where they served.
  • Experience: Served as a commissioned law enforcement officer for at least two (2) years and have not had a break in full-time law enforcement employment of twenty-four (24) months or greater.
The ideal candidate must have strong communication skills, be a problem solver, work as a team member, be honest and ethical, self-disciplined and credible.

To qualify as a Lateral Police Officer, candidates must be able to successfully meet the following requirements:

*Must be a Citizen of the United States or a lawful permanent resident who can read and write the English language.

*Out of state candidates must be able to successfully complete the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission's Equivalency Academy.
