Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a Lateral Police Officer opportunity. This is a safety-sensitive position in the Police Department, exercising a high degree of discretion, trust and confidence performing skilled police work. The duties involve police patrol, criminal investigations, traffic regulation, related law enforcement activities and a wide variety of community services. Members in this classification work in partnership with the community to identify and resolve issues of concern, provide public safety service to the community in emergencies and maintain peace, safety and order. Members must exercise considerable judgment, initiative and skill in a variety of situations and must be able to act without direct supervision in completing work. Duties are carried out under established organizational values, policies, procedures and the laws of the Town, the State of Colorado and the United States.

Additional Information

All applicants MUST have at least three (3) years of consecutive patrol experience while currently employed full-time by a state, county, or municipal police or sheriff's department. Experience accumulated as a deputy or officer employed at a correctional facility, college, university, District Attorney's office, or as a Federal or Military Police Officer is not applicable experience. Academy

training does not count toward the three-year minimum experience requirement.

Job Requirements

  • Age: 21
  • Education: A Colorado P.O.S.T. certification as a Level 1 Peace Officer is required, or Provisional letter from Colorado P.O.S.T. by date of hire.
  • Experience: All applicants MUST have at least three (3) years of consecutive patrol experience while currently employed full-time by a state, county, or municipal police or sheriff's department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Colorado P.O.S.T. certification as a Level 1 Peace Officer is required, or Provisional letter from Colorado P.O.S.T. by date of hire. An Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice or related field is preferred. If POST certified in another state, you MUST be able to provide a Provisional Certification letter from Colorado POST by date of hire. In addition, you MUST complete the provisional process with Colorado POST within six (6) months which includes taking the POST written certification exam and the three (3) skills exams to receive Basic certification in Colorado. A valid Colorado Driver License and good driving record or the ability to obtain upon hire is required; must have had a Driver License for at least two (2) years. The ability to type 30 words per minute with 90%accuracy is required. Must have the ability to pass all phases of the selection process for Police Officer. The ability to successfully complete a background check including but not limited to: criminal history search, drug screen, motor vehicle record (MVR) check, polygraph, psychological and physical examination and physical agility test is required.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (please see full job posting for entire list):

Knowledge of modern police principles, procedures, techniques and equipment.

Knowledge of human nature, human problems and problem solving methods.

Good employment history, good moral character.

Current basic first aid and CPR certification.

Ability to read and write the English language effectively.

Interpersonal communications skills which are both effective and reasonable.

Proficiency in the use of police equipment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people.

Ability to function effectively over a long period of time and under a variety of conditions.

Ability to perform work which requires good physical condition.
