The Rockville City Police Department is recruiting for entry level police officer candidates for positions to be filled in February/March 2020. The Rockville City Police Department is a progressive, professional, and nationally accredited law enforcement agency, is seeking highly motivated men and women for Police Officer positions. Rockville City Police Officers perform routine service and law enforcement work involving a variety of general or support duty police assignments. Work may be performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves personal hazard work. The Rockville City Police Department provides law enforcement-related services to approximately 70,000 residents; responsibility is shared with the Montgomery County Department of Police. City officers respond to calls for service as necessary and utilize partnerships to solve problems and to deal with issues affecting the safety and quality of life in all City neighborhoods.

Restrictions Applicants cannot become a police officer in the State of Maryland if they have: • Ever committed, been involved in or convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor. • Ever illegally sold, produced, cultivated, distributed, or transported a controlled dangerous substance, narcotic drug, or marijuana. Illegally used a controlled dangerous substance, narcotic drug, or marijuana for any purpose within the 3 years prior to application. • Illegally used a controlled dangerous substance, narcotic drug, or marijuana while employed as a law enforcement officer. • Ever used heroin, phencyclidine (PCP), or lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). • Used any controlled dangerous substance or narcotic drug more than five times, or one time since becoming 21 years old. • Used marijuana more than 20 times, or five times since becoming 21 years old.

Entry Level Police Officer applicants MUST meet the following standards to be considered for employment: Minimum Qualifications: • Successfully completed an Associates Degree or at least 60 semester hours of college credit with coursework in any subject matter. Credits from any accredited college or university will be accepted; or • Served in the Armed Forces of the United States, including the Organized Reserves and National Guard, with at least two years cumulative active duty and, if separated from the military, have received an honorable discharge; or • Served at least two years in a full-duty status with a full-service police department in a municipality or a state within the United States, with prior street patrol experience, full arrest authority and have resigned or retired in good standing. • Be at least 21 years of age or older at the time of police certification. • Be a United States citizen. • Possess a valid driver's license and have a good overall driving record. • Be in excellent physical and mental condition as determined by comprehensive examinations. • Be able to pass a written police examination. • Be able to pass a background and security check, be of good moral character, with no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions for which a sentence of imprisonment for one year or more could have been imposed. • Not be a current user of illegal drugs.
