5.11 Tactical fundraises with 9/11 memorial line

It’s been almost ten years since the attacks on September 11th, and first responders are still finding ways to commemorate those who were killed. 5.11 Tactical CEO Don Costa got the idea for a line of commemorative gear during a product development meeting with several 5.11 users (one of whom was a 9/11 responder), where the talk turned to the upcoming ten-year anniversary of the attacks.

The idea for a line of commemorative gear was born after Mike G., a 9/11 first responder with the Department of Homeland Security, sketched the idea for a logo on a napkin. The logo, which adorns 5.11’s line of new products, features the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and flight number 93.

All of the profits from 9/11 products will go to three public safety officers’ funds, with the ultimate goal of raising $750,000 for first responders.

5.11’s goal is to donate $250,000 to the FDNY Foundation for fire service and $250,000 for EMS operations, and $250,000 to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

The line of products includes a 9/11 hat, patch, pin, wallet, and coin, as well as several different shirts and bags.

5.11 débuted the products last January at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas, and PR and Advertising Manager Tawny LaBarbera said first responders who stopped by their booth were grateful for a way to commemorate the lives lost ten years ago.

“It’s a great way to get the public safety community involved in what happened,” LaBarbera said. “It resonates with everyone and it’s something everyone in the country really remembers and feels like it was yesterday.”

The products, which are available for preorder now, will go on sale May 11 and will be available for purchase through September 11 of this year.
