OfficerStore Helps Battle the Opioid Crisis With New NarCase Naloxone Cases
COATESVILLE, Pa. - OfficerStore, a division of Witmer Public Safety Group (WPSG), the nation’s leading multi-channel distributor of public-safety equipment, supplies, training, and service, is excited to now offer NarCase Naloxone Cases: These life-saving tools help law enforcement officers safely store, protect, and quickly deploy up to two doses of Naloxone – right from their duty belts.
It's no secret that heroin and opioid addiction has reached epidemic proportions in the U.S., resulting in ever-rising numbers of fatal overdoses among both children and adults. As a result, police departments and other first responders across the country are being trained to carry and administer anti-opioid medicines. Recognizing the unique challenges confronting law enforcement officers combating this epidemic, Tac Life Systems LLC developed NarCase Naloxone Cases.
"We were faced with a need," according to Peter Giannopoulos, a police officer and a Tac Life Systems LLC owner/partner. "We were one of the first departments in the country to be issued Naloxone. There was no way to safely carry it, so we created a proper solution."
Thanks to input from his department's SWAT medic, Giannopoulos and his creative team – also police officers – developed prototypes designed to securely carry and protect 2-milligram glass vials containing Naloxone. These would eventually become NarCase VI Naloxone Cases. The prototypes were tested by various departments while in the field, which lead to numerous design-related alterations based on feedback from the police officers using them.
"We designed NarCase with every first responder in mind," Giannopoulos said. "We wanted something that would take the least amount of real estate on our belts, be super light, and offer highly functional deployment on-scene."
After taking proper grip, roll mitigation, and one-handed opening into consideration, the NarCase V1 Naloxone Case was made to conveniently fit into a standard MK3-style OC/pepper-spray holster. Since its release, the NarCase has garnered an overwhelmingly positive reception among thousands of local, state, and federal agencies across the country.
"We have sold it to numerous departments in every state in the U.S., and we are working on a request for proposal for the U.K.," said Giannopoulos. "Our clients range from five-man departments to 6,000-officer departments and the department of corrections."
Light and compact, NarCase V1 Naloxone Cases protect the medication from sunlight and the elements. Also extremely durable, they offer ample crash-and-impact protection during a physical confrontation with an uncooperative subject. Based on the strong interest and need shown for the cases from first responders, Tac Life Systems LLC developed a sturdy, nylon-constructed holster with a metal belt clip designed to facilitate convenient carrying and fast access in all environments.
Just recently launched, the NarCase V2 Case is designed to hold the new, 4 milligram, nasal-only variation of Naloxone in a rugged, plastic case that offers durable, crush-resistant protection. The medicine slides in securely – in its original packaging – and snaps shut. Also included is a nylon holster, which is comprised of the same material that the V1 case is made from, and it has a metal clip – or a “pull the dot” loop – to secure it onto duty belts.
"We've fielded requests from numerous agencies asking us if we carried a product like the NarCase, so actually being able to do so now is an especially rewarding feeling," according to OfficerStore Product Specialist MacLain Brostrom. "The demand for them is high among our law enforcement clientele, so we're more than happy to provide them and assist in battling this life-or-death epidemic."
