1. Where did your company name originate from?
We discovered there was not a fixed blade knife on the market we liked. We decided to create our own. With a great deal of effort and combined knowledge, SpearPoint Technologies was born. The blade itself, which is in the shape of a spear point, signifies where we should all want to operate: at the tip of the spear.
2. What was the inspiration behind starting your company?
Our team pays close attention to the stories of fallen officers so we can honor their work and lives while learning from their tragedies. So many times we have seen officers fighting for their own weapon with nothing to immediately transition to. The Defensive Low Profile System (DLS) was the inspiration for our company and our passion to give our brothers and sisters that transitional tool.
3. What is your signature product and how does it work?
The DLS is our signature product. It is easy to access, uses gross motor skills for application and sits in a low-profile manner on the police officer’s duty belt. It is always available and ready if that life- or- death situation comes.
4. Why do you believe your products are essential to the police community?
The threats police officers face are ever-evolving. Therefore, equipment and training must evolve as well. The DLS is an evolution in fixed blade knife technology. It takes a standard piece of police issued equipment, a belt keeper, and turns it into a force multiplier that requires little effort and skill to deploy.
5. What has been the biggest challenge your company has faced?
We are police officers, not business people. We are learning by making every mistake you can make in business. However, as police officers, we are steadfast and resolute PLUS we have absolute belief in our mission!
6. What makes your company unique?
We are a company that is By Cops, For Cops. Everything we do is intended to make police officers safer and equip them with the tools and training necessary to meet the threats they face daily. We are police officers first! We are all active duty, we all have years of street experience and we all have training experience. These collections of officers are in the best position to conceive of, design, sell and demonstrate an item like the DLS.
7. What do your customers like best about you and your products?
Our customers like the simplicity of our product. It is small, easy to wear, easy to draw and an incredible force multiplier if an officer is ever faced with a deadly force threat and their pistol is inaccessible, doesn’t function or is otherwise compromised. We made our product so police officers could afford it and we provide the most personal and professional customer service we can.
8. What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?
We all took an oath to serve and protect our community. Our company has become an extension of that oath. We make the finest products we can, stand behind them, carry them ourselves and treat people the way we would want to be treated. When even one officer sends us a note and thanks us for the DLS, it’s our greatest reward!
9. Do you support any charitable organizations within public safety?
We recently helped sponsor the “Back the Blue” benefit ride in Warrenton, VA. An SPT team member is also a member of Law Enforcement United which honors fallen officers and helps raise money to support the surviving family members.
10. What’s next for your company? Any upcoming new projects or initiatives?
We have several exciting product developments. We have a velcro-based sheath for the DLS which provides more options for carry. We have a Molli-Gear version in development as well. We are about to release our DLS trainer which will allow officers to very closely simulate the actual application of this fixed blade knife in a scenario-based setting.
