SUISUN CITY, Calif. — A 55-year-old man who showed up with a loaded gun at a senior center in Suisun City and said he was "going on assignment" was shot and killed by a police officer, authorities said Thursday.

Bernardo Ararao was shot in the chest by a Suisun City police officer about 11:25 a.m. Wednesday after he refused to drop a 9mm handgun, police Lt. Tim Mattos said. The gun turned out to be loaded, he said.
