Firearms stolen from unmarked squad parked at home

The Md. officer discovered the next morning that his trunk had been broken into and a department issued Colt 223 rifle, and a Sig Sauer SRT 40 caliber service weapon were missing

BROOKLYN PARK, Md. — Police say a number of firearms were stolen from an unmarked police car in Anne Arundel County.

An off-duty officer parked his vehicle in front of his Brooklyn Park area home on Thursday, Feb. 6 and when he returned to the vehicle the morning of Friday, Feb. 7, he found that someone had broken into the vehicle, police say.

The officer immediately noticed that a department issued Colt 223 rifle, a Sig Sauer SRT 40 caliber service weapon, ammunition and a ballistic vest were missing, police say. The items had been secured in the vehicle out of view in the trunk.

This incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Metro Crime Stoppers and the Northern District Detective Unit at 410-222-6135.
