Harry Marrison attempted to exit the vehicle multiple times, even after the deputy told him to stay inside

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A citizen came to a deputy’s aide after a fleeing suspect began attacking him during a traffic stop.

The deputy pulled over Brittany Brown and Harry Marrison Wednesday because their car’s tag number was registered to a different vehicle, WFTV reported.

Marrison attempted to exit the vehicle multiple times, even after the deputy told him to stay inside. When Marrison fled, the deputy used his TASER and baton to try and stop him, but they had no effect.

When the deputy caught up to Marrison, the suspect began fighting the deputy. Shawn Kelly, who was driving by the scene, stopped to help detain the suspect.

“Many thanks to the citizen who stopped to help when he saw this deputy dealing with a fleeing suspect,” the department wrote on Facebook. “Always good to know our people have our deputies’ backs!”

No one was injured in the incident. Marrison told police he fled because he left a court-mandated treatment program and thought he had an arrest warrant. He was arrested on charges of resisting arrest with violence. Brown was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and issued a citation for driving with a suspended license.
