Maine officers using new .40-caliber handguns

Officer said the new model Glocks have some advantages over the third generation

HANCOCK, Maine — This month, Ellsworth officers trained with new handguns, fourth-generation Glock Model 22 .40-caliber pistols. The department recently replaced all the officers' sidearms, some of which were 17 years old.

"These guns are out every day we work, in the weather, while we're wrestling people to the ground," Ellsworth Police Officer Kelvin Mote said in an interview Wednesday. "After a while, they need replacing."
