These new vehicles are battery-powered and equipped with solar panels

Energy from the sun could be used to propel a very different style of police car at Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville, Ill.

The district also would like to have a solar-powered trolley to take visitors on tours of its most visible preserve and the adjoining Des Plaines River Trail and Greenway.
