MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A vehicle lighting technology business brightened the Milwaukee Police Department’s day in June with the donation of more than 50 LED motorcycle headlights to its fleet.

J.W. Speaker technicians visited the MPD’s motorcycle unit to remove the current headlights and replace them with Adaptive LED motorcycle lights, the company announced on its website. Technicians replaced the headlights on 56 motorcycles in two hours.

“This (Adaptive) technology solves a fundamental issue with motorcycle lighting, which is when you lean into the turns, you basically lose all the light as you go around the corners,” J.W. Speaker Motorcycle Sales Manager Kurt Kaufmann told Fox 6.

MPD officers are hoping that the new headlights will both help them do their jobs better and keep them safer at night.

“The additional lighting at nighttime is going to be a game changer for us,” MPD Sergeant Roberto Colon told Fox 6.
