GLENVIEW, Ill. — A drunken driver drove away from one crash in Glenview Sunday. But there was no getting away from his second crash 20 minutes later because he slammed into a passing squad car, police said.

Emanual Vivar-Alvarado, 21, of Niles, got into his first crash at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Central and Shermer roads, police said.

Another driver saw the crash and tailed Vivar-Alvarado, who sped away. But at the intersection of Spruce and Glenview, he ran a stop sign and hit a squad car, injuring himself and the officer, police said. Neither injury was considered life-threatening.

Vivar-Alvarado was charged with felony aggravated reckless driving, aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a property damage crash and other traffic violations.
