Ariz. cops collide with impaired driver en route to call

Police said the woman was most likely impaired somehow but haven't officially confirmed that

PHOENIX — Two Phoenix police officers sustained minor injuries late last night after the SUV they were riding in collided head-on with a vehicle being driven by a woman investigators suspect was impaired.

The accident happened on 51st Avenue, in the area of Baseline Road, as investigators said the officers were responding to a call for backup by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The officers were driving south on 51st Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. with the emergency lights turned on, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
