Video: Calif. university cops patrol with Zero motorcycles

With no gas emissions and no engine noise, the Zero bikes are stealthy, eco-friendly, and a great way to bond with the community

SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose State University has purchased two Zero DS electric motorcycles for patrol officers on campus.

The dual-sport bikes cost only $0.01 per mile, have no gas emissions, and can travel in narrow spots that cars cannot, like barriers, pillars, and crowds.

“Often times we are first ones on the scene with the equipment needed because we are able to get around and fit through tight spaces that a car is just not going to be able to go,” said Officer Pail Marshal of the San Jose State University police.

The two officers who use the Zero motorcycles reportedly sometimes ride for 10 of their 12-hour shifts, and still have power in their battery packs.
