PEORIA, Ill. — Law enforcement officers and firefighters responded to a burning trash bin came under attack during a Fourth of July celebration in Illinois.

Responders faced a "near-riot" mob setting off mortar-type fireworks, with some people throwing bottles and rocks, according to pjstar.com.

About three minutes into a video of the incident posted online, an exploding firework appears to strike a responder standing next to a fire truck on scene.

Several responders were burned and suffered temporary hearing loss.

Firefighters are seen putting water on the fireworks at around five minutes into the video.

Police used launchers and pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
