SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. — Police released footage Wednesday of a Nov. 15 a standoff between a knife-wielding man and Miami-Dade police.
Officers responded after a man called 911 threatening to kill police, WSVN reported.
When police arrived on the scene, one officer can be heard saying “he’s reaching for something, put it down.”
Due to the man’s mental issues, his identity is blurred, but the video shows him holding a knife in the middle of the street.
Officers can be heard telling the man to put down the weapon. Police believe the suspect wanted to commit suicide by cop, according to the news station.
“Put it down, put it down,” an officer on the video said. “You don’t want to get hurt.”
When an officer pointed his TASER at the man, the suspect told police he was a father and threatened the officers again.
The suspect then tells the officer pointing a gun at him to “shoot.”
An officer deployed his TASER and police rendered aid until an ambulance arrived.
He was transported to a local hospital. No officers were hurt during the incident.
