EAST HAVEN, Conn. — Officers in Connecticut subdued an armed, suicidal man who urged police to kill him.

The East Haven Patch reports that police responded Tuesday to reports of a man in possession of several large knives who was threatening people. Police found the man with a knife in each hand.

As the suspect approached Officers David Delgado and William Coppola and demanded they kill him, Delgado holstered his firearm and deployed his TASER, incapacitating the man.

Delgado and Coppola disarmed the suspect and took him into custody without further incident. Murgo said the incident shows the significance of de-escalation training.

“This incident highlights the importance of three relatively new concepts in law enforcement. All of which were demonstrated in this video,” Murgo said in a statement.

Murgo went on to say that the encounter “could have been a deadly force” situation, but since the officer had the option to use the TASER, “it played out much differently.”

“We hope this video provides some insight into what types of scenarios police officers encounter on a daily basis,” Murgo concluded in his statement.
