2 men mortally wounded in Ga. police chase

Both lanes of I-75 northbound were closed for hours while police combed through wreckage trying to determine the identities of the three and retrieve suspected illegal drugs that were thrown from the vehicle.
The chase began at the Cobb-Cherokee County line about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta when the suspect vehicle refused to stop for a trooper, said Trooper Larry Schnall, a spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol.
Schnall said other troopers joined the chase on the busy highway in Bartow County as contraband was thrown from the vehicle and the occupants shook their fists and made obscene gestures at the troopers.
At least one other vehicle was struck by the fleeing car, Schnall said, and unsuccessful attempts were made to end the chase using a stop stick and a rolling roadblock.
Troopers finally used a pit maneuver to try to spin the fleeing car to a halt, but it struck a guardrail and overturned, ejecting the three occupants north of Cartersville, Schnall said.
He said the car had Alabama tags.
