2 Chicago officers injured while dispersing crowd

CHICAGO — Two Chicago police officers suffered minor injuries while dispersing a large gathering on the South Side, according to Chicago police.

Officers responded to the call to disperse the crowd about 9:45 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Lowe Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood, police said. One officer saw a man holding a gun and began to chase the man. The man was taken into custody shortly after and a handgun was recovered.

Afterward, shots were fired nearby and a second man was taken into custody, police said. A handgun was recovered. During the incident, two officers were injured and taken to a hospital. It was not immediately clear how the officers were injured or what their injuries were.

Three others were also taken into custody for disorderly conduct after they went over to the Englewood District Station, police said.

The incident is under investigation, police said.
