HUDSON, Fla. — Recently released video shows a deputy and K-9 splitting up to track down two men accused of stealing and crashing an SUV.

WTVT reports that Jacob Montgomery and David Brunton led Deputy Nich Carmack on a pursuit that ended when the two crashed the stolen Ford Explorer on Saturday. After the suspects fled, Carmack released his K-9 partner, Shep, on Montgomery while he pursued Brunton.

Once Carmack apprehended Brunton, the deputy made the suspect run along with him to retrieve Shep and Montgomery, who was dragging the K-9 along as the dog latched onto the suspect’s arm, according to WFLA.

“He probably was worried,” Sheriff Chris Nocco said. “That’s his dog, that’s his partner.”

Shep eventually released Montgomery’s arm after Carmack ordered him to let go. Backup officers arrived and the suspects were taken into custody.

Nocco said Shep wasn’t hurt during the the arrest. Montgomery and Brunton face numerous charges.
