Video: Suspect tackled after escaping back of NYPD car

The suspect in the shooting of another man grappled with police in the middle of an intersection

MANHATTAN, NY — Video shows a suspect attempting to escape police custody by climbing out a police car’s back window.  

A video posted to Facebook by ABC7 shows Raymond Johnson, still in handcuffs, attempt to outrun an NYPD officer, who tackles him to the ground in the middle of a busy intersection. The officer, whose name has not been released, grappled with Johnson for a few seconds before Johnson struggled to his feet and ran two or three more steps. At that point, other officers stepped in to assist and Johnson was taken back into custody.

ABC7 reports the officers were all reporting to a shooting outside a housing development on the Upper West Side on Monday and arrested Johnson in connection with the shooting. The officer who tackled Johnson is being treated for a leg injury.
