The officer, a 17-year veteran with the department, was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, police confirmed.

This is the third officer to be killed in the line of duty in Milwaukee over the past eight months.

“This is a lot to bear for an agency - three deaths in such a short period of time, said Assistant Chief Michael J. Brunson Sr. We’re asking for prayers and your support during this extremely diffi time for us

Milwaukee Police Officer Charles Irvine Jr., 23, was killed June 7 during a high-speed pursuit with a reckless driver. Irvine, who was in the front passenger seat when it rolled over, had been with the department since he was 19 years old and had become an officer two years prior.

Officer Michael Michalski was fatally shot on July 25, in an exchange of gunfire in a house where police were searching for a man suspected of drug dealing and domestic violence.

"This is been an incredible difficult year for the department. Now the third officer has lost his life in the service of Milwaukee, so it's a sad day for this community," Alderman Bob Donovan told WISN 12 NEWS.
