Our department bought micro mini-cassette recorders for the officers. The thought was to use them to protect us against false allegations during vehicle stops. I attach mine with velcro to my body armor and have an external microphone that hangs hidden under the button flap on the outside of my shirt. It is very easy to operate through the shirt. I use it on every vehicle stop I do. I also will turn it on during any situation where I am dealing with an irrate subject. The tape can easily be erased or stored. It is also a great tool during domestic violence interviews in the field. It captures the victims context of their words and makes a great evideniary tool if the case goes to court and the victim tries to recant their story (as we know they very often do). We are not required to use them, but I have found it to be a great tool that has multiple applications.
