LOS ANGELES — Seven people were injured — four of them seriously — in a traffic collision Monday morning involving a Los Angeles Police Department vehicle, authorities said.

An LAPD spokeswoman said that the collision occurred at 8:47 a.m. in Glassell Park at the intersection of North San Fernando Road and Fletcher Drive.

“It appears there is an LAPD vehicle and possibly several officers involved in one vehicle,” said Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department. “Up to five of them are LAPD officers,” she said.
Main said seven people were taken to a hospital after the collision.

Four LAPD officers were taken to the hospital with conditions categorized as “serious, but not life-threatening.”

Three civilians were taken to the hospital in fair condition, Main said.

Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department said the four officers were responding to a backup call with their lights and sirens on in an unmarked car. They were traveling east on San Fernando Road, Herrera said.

A sport utility vehicle that “was traveling northbound on Fletcher with three occupants at a high rate of speed collided with the unmarked vehicle,” she said, adding that she had no additional information.
