ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. — An officer was killed Sunday night after his vehicle crashed while responding to an emergency call.
Deputy Jeff Watson, 41, of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, was struck by another vehicle on his way to the scene, with both his lights and siren on, according to NBC 33.
The collision caused the cruiser to turn on its side, after which it was hit by a second vehicle and an approaching motorcycle.
The motorcycle driver was in critical condition and the two other motorists were treated for minor injuries, according to the report.
"Deputy Watson was a dedicated public servant who will be deeply missed by all St. Charles Parish residents,” a press release from St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office stated.
Officials say Deputy Watson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was a 12-year law enforcement veteran and joined the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office in October 2005.
